I believe that true health is achieved by igniting an individual’s internal potential to self-heal. Using the body’s innate knowledge and reminding it how to heal itself is the foundation of my work. We all have the potential for self healing within us. My approach is to use acupuncture, supplements, good nutrition, and lifestyle choices as tools to direct the body back to its balanced state. Once balance is restored, the body can take over and continue the process.
About Rebecca
I am an NCCAOM board certified and state licensed acupuncturist. After completing a bachelor’s degree in biology at Smith College and working in the field of medical disease research for 10 years, I received my Master’s degree at the New England School of Acupuncture in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. I have worked in specialty clinics, including inpatient addiction and rehabilitation and public health, and I now enjoy a general private practice in Gloucester, where I’ve been practicing acupuncture for 15 years. I love working through the individual dynamics of different bodies and gradually learning more about what helps them to respond and change. I am co-founder of both The Well for Integrative Medicine and Treetop Yoga Studio in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Although I am no longer an owner of Treetop, I continue to enjoy a regular yoga practice there, when not spending time with my 3 young children.
My Story
After finishing college, I was preparing to apply to veterinary school, and doing the pre-requisite work experience at a vet’s office. The work was not what I had expected it to be, and as I became disillusioned with the work, I also started to develop animal allergy and symptoms of asthma. I was told by a respiratory specialist that, because my symptoms were adult onset, they would never improve, only worsen, and all I could do was slow the progression with numerous medications. Instead, I tried a series of acupuncture treatments. With acupuncture, and some significant lifestyle changes, I haven’t used an inhaler for 20 years and I don’t have any remaining animal allergies. I decided along the way that acupuncture was a much more interesting career option than veterinary medicine, and went to acupuncture school instead.
